4 German Meals You Have to Try

The Germans are not best known for their cuisine but they make some tasty meals. They certainly know what to do with a good piece of meat and of course everything goes great with a cold glass of beer. While there are literally thousands of different meals you can try throughout Germany, here are four you will be certain to love.

Sauerbraten

Sauerbraten or “sour roast” is normally a beef roast that is marinated in various wines, herbs, spices, and seasonings for multiple days before cooking. Considered one of Germany’s national dishes, Sauerbraten can be found in many German restaurants. Though it is normally made from a tougher cut, the marination process has been perfected after centuries of use and this is one of the most tender meals you will ever eat. A good Sauerbraten will literally melt in your mouth.

Sauerbraten is generally served with the typical side dishes of rot kohl (red cabbage) and some kind of potato. Our personal favorite is Kartoffleklöße (potato dumplings). You can always ask for spätzle, a type of egg noodle. If you are really adventurous, you can ask for Käsespätzle. But more on that later… Here is a good recipe you can try.
