Garmisch-Partenkirchen, what I believe to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. Maybe I am biased, but even when its cloudy and overcast, the place is magical! It has increasingly become one of my favorite spots for a weekend getaway! We all know and love Edelweiss Resort located on the military base there, but if you are like me and love taking your pet with you, this doesn’t work! Since Edelweiss is not pet friendly, I always have to look for other options when visiting Garmisch. That is until I came across the Best Western Obermühle in the heart of Garmisch.
While searching for pet-friendly hotels on Booking.com, I was lucky enough to come across this Best Western, a newly renovated, luxurious, 4-star hotel. I didn’t always have the best opinion of Best Westerns, but judging by the hotel’s pictures on their website, this place looked amazing.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly front desk staff, who helped us get checked in, took our luggage to our room for us and then offered us a complimentary welcome drink. What a way to start the stay! While sipping our hot coffee and tea (mind you it was cold and snowing when we visited in late April), the gentleman at the front desk brought over pamphlets with things to do in the area, such as taking the train or cable car to the top of the Zugspitze or hiking through the Partnach Gorge! He was very helpful with all of our questions. A bonus: The hotel offers a free shuttle to the Zugspitze Bahnhof, making sure to get you there in time for your departure and waiting for you upon your return. No need to spend money on a taxi or pay for a parking ticket! Since it was snowy and overcast, the staff at the hotel was constantly checking their webcam to give us the latest update of the view from the top of the Zugspitze to see if it was worth going up. Talk about first class service!
After finishing our drinks, we made our way to the room. The hotel is split into two buildings, building #1, where the front desk and restaurant are found, and building #2 where the newly renovated rooms are located. The two buildings are connected by an underground tunnel so you never have to set foot outside if you don’t want to. Opening the door to our room, we found our bags neatly placed and a full pet station set up for our pup. If you want to speak to my heart, spoil my dog! The staff had left a water bowl, a poo bag and a lovely letter welcoming her! The room was spacious and clean, and still had that newly renovated smell! There was plenty of room to store our luggage and even a place to sit and have coffee! Not to mention the view. You really can’t have a bad view in Garmisch, but this was one for the books. Our room overlooked a little creek, we had the perfect view of the mountains with the relaxing sound of the water passing by, even though it was border line blizzarding!
If you are wanting a relaxing stay, the wellness and fitness center of this hotel is top notch. Their fitness center is equipped with two treadmills, a stationary bike and free weights to help burn off all the beer and delicious food. On their main floor they have an indoor heated pool with panoramic views of the Alpspitze through their floor to ceiling windows lining the pool. Relax here with a breath-taking view or head downstairs to their spa where you can take your pick between three different saunas, a steam room, or simply unwind in their Zen room with bubbly water infused with lemon! Did I mention all of this is included in your room rate?!
Breakfast that is included is always a major plus for me, but when the hotel offers an all organic style breakfast, that is a done deal! From eggs to sandwiches, to oatmeal or cereal, even making your own juice in their juicing machine, this breakfast bar had more options than I have ever seen a hotel offer.
It’s no wonder this hotel is rated with four stars. The staff, the rooms, and the food was amazing! This Best Western also provides family rooms, a sunbathing yard (weather permitting), a curling rink and free Wi-Fi. There is no other place I will stay while visiting Garmisch, this place has my heart!

I have personally stayed there on numerous occasions from 2003 to 2016 and I can’t say I ever had a bad stay whether it was winter or summer. I agree highly with this recommendation.
